High Tech Equipment Not Needed
Written by Michelle Hill
Personal trainers are creative individuals. They are able to make use of both traditional and alternative tools for their clients’ workouts. The equipment may comprise common household items, items that can be easily made and weight added for enhanced workouts, or a combination of all available equipment choices.
In the Dallas, Texas suburb of Argyle, Kelli Calabrese trains instructors throughout the United States for the Adventure Boot Camp program. Calabrese also owns the Argyle Adventure Boot Camp. Daily 5:30 a.m. classes at the Argyle facility usually attract nearly 60 participants. Participants pay a class admission fee per class. The group meets at a church-school campus, makes good use of open athletic field areas and bleachers for drill-running, as well as, blacktop areas.
In Colorado Springs, personal trainer Mark Roozen uses workout routines with equipment that is not high-tech or typically purchased at sporting goods stores. Roozen puts logs, wheelbarrows and sandbags into use as functional workout equipment.
Other low-tech exercise equipment includes:
-
Medicine balls.
-
Kettle bells.
-
Balance boards.
-
Stability balls.
Some equipment may look work, rough, old-fashioned and unpleasing. Yet, interestingly, this equipment can also provide a wide range of functional fitness support and aid in increasing cardiovascular health through lifting, reaching and walking during daily activities. Big movements like squats, walking lunges, crawls, pull-ups, push-ups and mountain climbing use a combination of muscle groups.
Getting moving is the most – and first part – of getting fit, and involves no equipment at all. Encourage clients who aren't yet able to handle serious exertion to start walking. Once bodies are moving, other benefits, both physical and mental, naturally occur.
