Exercise May Keep Your Biologically Young
Written by Bill Bean
Research shows that people who exercise are actually biologically younger than their non-exercising peers. The reason people run is to keep the cardiovascular system pumped and healthy, their “good mood” endorphins up, and youthful figures in tact.
Do these people know that sweating it out on the running track or treadmill may actually be keeping their cells biologically young?
A new study in the journal Circulation, shows that vigorous exercise may be inducing a natural anti-aging effect that goes right down to our DNA.
Dr. Ulrich Laufs, author of the new study and researcher at the University of Saarlandes in Saarbrücken, Germany stated, "People who exercise have better health and live longer, however the mechanisms are not completely understood.” "You'd be amazed at how little we know about the mechanism of exercise on the cellular level."
Laufs and his colleagues found that in their study of 104 people, a 50-year old adult who made it a habit to exercise vigorously during their lifetime appeared biologically younger than their peers who were still healthy but had not exercised.
