Continuing Education
CECs are a measurement of a certificants current and applicable knowledge of relevant certification subjects. Obtaining appropriate credits is a requirement of many business professionals, educators, and health and fitness instructors. NFPT Certified Personal Trainers (CPTs) are eligible to maintain CECs through an online self-test method that is included in a small annual renewal fee and is maintenanced at no additional cost.
The NFPT-CPT requires two (2) Continuing Education Credits (CECs) per year to maintain your accredited certification status. This CEC requirement will start one year after your initial certification date. Your certificate will include an expiration date which indicates the start date for continuing education maintenance. The certification is renewed on an annual basis ($85) with one (1) credit required each six month period. NFPT Self-Tests, the free source for maintaining credits, are released each June and December. Notification by mail will be provided each June and December of the necessary requirement. Though the Self-Tests are NFPT's primary source for CECs, we encourage you to refer to the variety of other fitness related resources for specialized continuing education.
Continuing education is a necessary part of maintaining your professional NFPT-CPT credential. As a successful Personal Fitness Trainer, it becomes clear that continuing to educate yourself in areas that you wish to specialize in and/or enhancing your existing skill level is extremely beneficial to your career. Continuing education is more than just a requirement, it means going beyond the initial CPT credential and assuring clients and other fitness professionals that you consider expanding your scope of knowledge an essential element for long term success.
