Attitude is Everything!

How can you consistently get the energy needed to facilitate a positive change in your client’s body? The easiest way to explain this is by using the equation: A+B+C=D. A=attitude, B=belief in the process, C=concentration, and D=delivering quality service.
“Attitude is Everything.”
We have all heard it. Demonstrating a positive attitude promotes an energy flow making the workout a more productive one.
Attitude controls the timing, sequencing of exercises, and communication between your clients and you. As a constant reminder of the importance of attitude, assign a number value to each letter in the word ATTITUDE, A=1, B=2, C=3, D=4, E=5, etc. Got it? All of the letters add up to 100! That is what it takes -- 100% positive attitude.
The synergistic relationship between your personal training skills and that irreplaceable element of demonstrating a positive attitude is priceless. Give your clients a reason to refer others to you. Your skill level can always be improved, but a positive attitude must be at optimal levels at all times. For example, you may have had an athletic coach who was not the most talented athlete, however, his overwhelming positive attitude helped the team win games that no one thought they had a chance of winning!
Attitude is similar to the pistons of an engine when they are firing perfectly. The engine sounds great and runs even better. Not only will you become successful as a trainer, you too will reap the benefits of long-lasting relationships and will persevere in obtaining many of your personal goals.
Always encourage and never discourage! I have seen many of my personal trainer associates come down on their clients for lack of exercise and poor dieting. This is not effective! Reinforce positive behavior and your clients will reap the benefits and accomplish something great. Assure your clients that effort is the key for results and as long as they do the best they can, then it will become easier to live a healthier and more active lifestyle.
Behavior modification is a psychological approach to positive behavior change that is performed in this very manor. Your response to your clients diet and exercise habits can be the catalyst to progress or failure in fitness goal achievement. Give it a shot!
Try the following test: See if your positive attitude contributes as much to your client’s success as described here. Note the days that your positive attitude is less than 100%. I can assure you that on those days, your clients can sense your lack of enthusiasm and they too will lag in their efforts. Attitude contributes significantly to belief in the process of exercising and healthy eating to change bodies.
As trainers, it is important that we continually emphasize the importance of following a long-term program of exercise and proper diet. Clients often become discouraged if results they do not see reults in couple of weeks. It is a process that does not happen within a month, two months, or three months it is a lifelong commitment to a healthier lifestyle. It must be a constant reminder to our clients that their bodies will change if they follow and believe in the process.
Concentration is critical in being successful in anything you do. Moreover, concentrating on our client’s needs and fitness capabilities will provide an unspoken sense of energy that makes the training session much better. The client’s concentration is equally important to the trainer’s concentration. Clients must constantly be reminded to better their fitness levels. Try it while you are training yourself and really focus on the body part being worked on. Then, daydream and think about what you are going to do later or whom you have to call.
I’ll bet your workout is 100% better when you are focused. This too must be your client’s mindset. Your attitude, believing in the process, and concentration will ultimately lead to delivering the best quality service possible. After all, our job as fitness experts is to provide the most superior service. Our clients expect it, so it is up to us to deliver.
Be positive, focus, and believe that your long-term goal setting will produce results for your clients!
